Some of the top features:
- Fully integrated 30 page auto document feeder for raid copying, scanning and faxing
- Super G3 high speed fax with 20 coded speed dials storing up to 50 incoming pages when receiving ITU-T No. 1 chart
- Various security features including password protected PDFs

The FINE print capability on this printer produces ink droplets of two picoliters in size, which creates prints with crisp resolutions. Higher-priced units in the Canon line produce one picoliter droplets, but for the price, this printer creates prints with acceptable resolution.
Wireless is provided using 802.11b/g connectivity and is relatively straight forward to configure. This printer supports both the Mac and PC environment and software installation and hardware configuration is simple.
The initial setup requires USB connectivity, but wireless connectivity is as simple as choosing an available network and entering the network password. In addition, the MX340 supports iPhone printing from compatible iPhone 3G, 3GS, and iPhone Touch models.
Scanning can be directed to either e-mail or an image folder on the computer. OCR scans can only be directed to an ASCII text editor; there is no OLE capability to scan to other word processing packages, such as Microsoft Word. The scan function is fast and OCR performance fairly accurate.
Faxing supports a Super G3 wired LAN interface, which connects to a home or office network. Each computer on the network can view the fax status and share use of the fax machine.
At a price of less than $100, the Canon PIXMA MX340 is an excellent option for those on a budget. It is slightly scaled down compared to more expensive all-in-one printers, but for the money, it’s fine. It’s compact and functional with an excellent feature set placed at an amazing price point.
Mark Spaulding recently had this to say about his MX 340:
This is the easiest setup I’ve ever had to do. It worked great with no problems. I highly recommend this great product.

Brother HL227DDW Review
The Brother HL2270DW wireless monochrome printer is a cross platform-supported device with a small footprint. It supports Mac, Linux, and Windows with drivers to enable wireless printing from each of these platforms. Printing speeds cruise at a speedy 27 ppm with auto-duplex support for double-sided printing. Print quality is at a maximum of 2400 x 600 dpi and the printer comes with a 250-page paper tray with stack bypass for larger stock.
One of the primary selling points of this printer is the print quality. The print engine is very fast and the printer comes with a 700-page toner cartridge to get you started. A larger 2,600-page toner cartridge is available to replace the starter cartridge and the replacement cost is fairly reasonable.
The increased print speed is helped, in part, but a faster 200MHz processor, which replaces the slower 181MHz processor in its predecessor, the 2270W. This increases the speed at which documents are processed in preparation for printing.

Some of the features of the Brother HL227DDW:
- Prints up to 27ppm
- Built-in wireless and Ethernet network interfaces
- Automatic duplex printing for two-sided documents
- Adjustable, 250-sheet capacity paper tray
- 32MB memory standard
Installation is fairly simple. The toner comes already installed, but needs to be removed and shaken before first-time use. Wireless is a little tricky during fist-time setup, although the printer supports three different wireless setups with configuration available for both 802.11b/g.
A quick start guide is provided to assist in the initial setup. The printer supports USB connectivity and setup is fast and flawless. A duplex option is available and, if used, will slow printing down a little. The option works well, although mild curling does occur after the paper works its way through the duplexer.
The Brother HL2270DW wireless monochrome printer lives up to its claims with fast print speeds and excellent print quality. Prospective buyers might consider purchasing a higher-capacity toner cartridge for when the starter cartridge runs out. For the money, this printer is definitely worth consideration.
Find out why R. Norman says this about the Brother HL227DDW:
This printer is replacing a HP 7410 all-in-one. It has superior printing without the extreme inkjet cartridge costs. It has a much smaller footprint, has controls to manage the amount of toner usage along with duplexing capabilities.
